Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language primarily spoken in the state of Punjab in India, and Punjab in Pakistan. It is the official language of the Punjab in India and is widely used in education, mass media and administration. It is also spoken by a significant number of native speakers of Punjabi settled in other states of India and abroad. This book is intended for the students who are already familiar with the spoken language to some extent, or who have studied Punjabi for a year or so and would like to improve their knowledge of the language. The reader is divided into 3 sections: selections, translations, and glossary. The first section contains 50 selections of news articles from the Punjabi Tribune - a prominent newspaper in India. Each selection is followed by a list of vocabulary in the order of their occurrence in the selection and their meanings in the particular context of the selection. Brief grammatical and cultural notes follow the vocabulary lists. The second section gives English translations of the Punjabi selections. The third section is an alphabetic glossary of the vocabulary from the selections.
