This self-contained book is designed to take students with little or no knowledge of Malagasy to a moderately advanced level. It contains a grammatical sketch of the language (based on Rev. W. E. Cousin’s grammar) and forty-four reading selections with vocabulary, extensive notes, an English translation, and a composite glossary. The selections are varied in form, context, and vocabulary, and provide snapshots of the cultural life of the country. Audio cassette recordings, read by three native Malagasy speakers, are available.
